Broken & bruised
This week we look at John 20. The main character in the 1st half of the chapter is Mary Magdalene (next week it’s Thomas). She was the woman from whom Jesus has driven sevens demons out of (Luke 8:2, Mark 16:9), who then followed Jesus and supported him and the disciples in their mission. She sttod at the foot of the cross the day that Jesus was crucified (John 19:25) and the first witness of the reserrected Jesus. Jesus commands her to go and bear witness to the other disciples that he was alive! (John 20:10-18) It is striking that God called and used a woman such as Mary, she was a broken and bruised woman – yet God used her in a most profound way. Maybe you find youself broken and bruised like Mary – God can and does use broken & bruised women like Mary; who loved Jesus and obeyed him; even though it was hard far her. - do the same; Love Jesus and obey him. The point here isn’t love Mary Magdalene but let her point you to Jesus.
